Hi, I’m Christina, founder and lead teacher at BOLD Pilates.

At 19, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Practically overnight, I went from being strong and active to feeling limited, exhausted, and in constant pain. Even simple movement hurt—and exercise, something I once loved, only made things worse.

Then I found Pilates. Pilates met me exactly where I was. On the hard days, I could ease in; on the good days, I could push myself. Slowly, I rebuilt my strength—not just to move better in class, but to live more freely in everyday life.

That experience inspired me to create BOLD Pilates, a place where movement builds real, functional strength for living boldly beyond the studio. I’ve brought together an incredible team of passionate, knowledgeable instructors who share that mission. Each of us comes from a different background, but we’re united by one goal: helping you feel strong, capable, and confident in your own body.

Pilates is a movement and exercise system that focuses on building strength, improving posture, increasing flexibility, and enhancing overall body awareness (and thus, overall fitness). It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, blending principles from gymnastics, boxing, and yoga to create a method that promotes balanced strength and mindful movement.

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothes that allow for movement. Don’t wear clothing with zippers (which can scratch the equipment) or anything too loose. Sticky socks (sometimes called grip socks) are required for safety and hygiene, so make sure to pick some up on Amazon or wherever you shop.

Just bring yourself, a good attitude, a water bottle if you’d like, and your sticky socks!

No, we don’t take ClassPass at BOLD Pilates, and that is intentional. In order to provide truly personalized service to our clients, we encourage regular attendance with memberships and packages, not the occasional drop-in.

Absolutely! Our All Levels Reformer group classes are great for everyone, including beginners. We make sure to provide layers to each exercise that provide a challenging workout for everyone from beginners through advanced movers. You don’t need any experience to get started—just a willingness to move and try something new. So, come on in to BOLD Pilates Encinitas and try it out!

Mat Pilates is done on the floor using your bodyweight for resistance, while Reformer Pilates uses a spring-based machine that adds resistance and support. We use the Reformer in all of our classes.

For best results when it comes to building strength and flexibility, we recommend coming 2–3 times per week. But, even one class a week can make a noticeable difference in how you feel and move!

Not at all! You don’t need to be flexible to start. In fact, Pilates can help you become more flexible over time, along with improving your strength and control.

Yes! One of the core benefits of Pilates is building better alignment and stability, which often helps with back pain and postural imbalances. Be sure to let us know about any specific issues so we can adjust things for your comfort and safety.

Definitely.  Rehabilitation is often helped by Pilates because of its focus on controlled movement, alignment, and strength-building. We’ll work with you to modify movements as needed so you can safely rebuild strength and mobility. Even then, always check with your doctor or physical therapist before starting if you’re recovering from an injury.

While both focus on the mind-body connection, Pilates places more emphasis on core strength, spinal alignment, and precise movements in order to build overall strength. In Pilates, we also use the Reformer to provide both support and resistance.

We’ll guide you through each exercise and offer on-the-spot corrections as needed. Your instructor will offer personalized guidance, and you’ll be supported every step of the way. Expect to leave feeling strong, stretched, and more connected to your body.

Absolutely! Pilates is a fantastic way to stay strong and feel good throughout your pregnancy. It helps with posture, pelvic floor strength, and overall comfort. Just make sure to let us know you’re expecting, and we’ll offer appropriate modifications for each trimester.

Our classes are intentionally small—capped at just 9 people—so we can give you focused, individualized attention. You’re not just working out on your own, you’re guided by a trained instructor the whole time who ensures you’re moving safely and effectively. Because of that, the quality of instruction and personal support is a big part of what makes Pilates so valuable.

We use Momence for all of our scheduling and class bookings. You can sign up through our website or download the Momence app. From there, you’ll be able to view our schedule, reserve classes, manage your bookings, and purchase class packs or memberships—all in one place.
